Bake This helps bakery franchises plan and follow their baking day. This page covers the Bake This app for iPhone and Android and the Bake This service at app.bake-this.com that the app reads from. Bake This is run by Bake This Inc.
- The app only shows your shops' own numbers to people the shop gave an account.
- No tracking, no ads, no location, no third-party analytics or crash-reporting tools.
- We never sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
What the app sends and keeps
- A pairing code and a PIN. You connect the app to your Bake This account with a one-time code from the Devices page and choose a PIN. The PIN is sent to our server to unlock the app; the server stores only a scrambled (hashed) form of it, and of the device key below.
- A device name. The name of your phone is filled in when you pair (you can change it), so you can recognize and remove the phone later on the Devices page.
- A device key. After pairing, our server gives the app a key that is kept in the phone's secure storage: the Keychain on an iPhone, the Android Keystore on an Android phone. It lets the app read your shops' data until you unpair the phone or remove it on the Devices page.
- Face ID or fingerprint (optional). If you turn it on, Face ID is checked by iOS on an iPhone, and the fingerprint or face unlock by Android on an Android phone. We never receive your face or fingerprint data.
- Your settings (the look of the app, the last shop and tab you opened) stay on the phone. Backups of the app's data are turned off on Android, so a pairing never moves to another phone.
- Notifications (only if you allow them). If a version of the app offers alerts and you allow them, Apple or Google gives the app a push token that we store with your device so we can send those alerts. Turning notifications off in Settings stops them.
What the app reads from our server
The app mostly reads. It shows the shop data your account may see: sales so far and by hour compared with last week, the forecast, what is in the ovens and the warmer, the bake log, and how long customers waited and how fresh the patties were on a closed day. These figures come from the shop's own register and ovens and are stored on the Bake This server, not in the app. Your name and role are shown in the app's account sheet.
If your account may steer, the app can also change the next bake (more or fewer patties of a flavor) and correct a bake that already went in. Each change is saved on the Bake This server with your name and the time, the same as when it is made on the web. Nothing else in the shop changes from the phone.
Your Bake This account
The app requires a Bake This account, created by the shop or franchise that uses Bake This (not in the app). The account holds your name, email address, role and which shops you may see. We use it only to sign you in and to show you the right shops.
What we do not do
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No tracking across other companies' apps or websites.
- No location data.
- No contacts, photos or microphone access from the app.
- The camera is used only to scan the pairing code, and only when you tap to scan it. On an iPhone the app reads the code itself; on Android, Google's own code scanner reads it, and the app has no camera permission. The picture is never sent to us.
- No third-party analytics, marketing or crash-reporting software in the app.
Server logs
Like any website, our server keeps short technical logs of requests (time, address requested, IP address). They rotate out automatically and are used only to keep the service running and secure.
Who else handles the data
The data is stored on a server we rent in the United States, and backups are kept with a storage provider. These providers only store data for us and may not use it for anything else. We share data with nobody else unless the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Unpairing the app deletes its key from the phone. On our server the phone's entry (its name and the scrambled key and PIN) stays listed on the Devices page, where the shop can remove it; a key that is removed, or not used for 90 days, stops working. Your account stays while your shop uses Bake This; the shop can ask us to delete it. Shop figures are kept for as long as the shop uses Bake This, because the forecast learns from past weeks.
Your choices
- Unpair the app at any time from its account sheet; the shop's owner can remove the phone on the Devices page.
- Ask us to see, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you.
Children
Bake This is a business tool for bakery staff and owners and is not meant for children.
